It's like pronouncing Hola with the "h" sound! I've actually seen native Spanish speakers ears bleed after hearing such a simple thing butchered. So I'm speaking out, If I hurt your feelings, I'm sorry but after a couple of decades of silence I have to say this! TATTOO the word has only 6 letters! Is it really so difficult to say that you have to shrink it to 3? Come on!
A well intentioned gentleman who has never in his life set foot in a tattoo parlor walks up to a complete stranger and says, "I really like you tat, man." The tattooed stranger will most likely be polite, but believe me they are grinding their teeth at how awkward that just was. Every subculture has its own vocabulary and culture. If you don't know it, that's okay we don't expect you to, but don't try to pretend you know what you are talking about. You can admire a tattoo without knowing all the terminology. You know what it is called, call it that! I have been the "tattooed stranger" on many occasions, I appreciate someone admiring my tattoos, that is why I put them there, for me and others to enjoy. So feel free to enjoy and even compliment, just be yourself and don't try to be something you aren't. If you absolutely must use a different word, you can use the word "ink." It is accepted and will not make you look like such a poser.
So, if you haven't clearly understood me yet, I'm gonna give you a clear piece of advice here, this might hurt a bit. When you say tat, you sound like an idiot. Don't do it.
TATTOO of the Month
I'm gonna take this opportunity to introduce a new series I am going to be featuring on this blog. Every month I will be profiling a tat (just checking to see if you were listening before) that I really like and that spoke to me in some way. I just want to appreciate the peice and keep our creative juices flowing and hopefully give you ideas for your next (or first) tattoo. I will show a picture, share the artist and the tattooed parlor who did the work.
